Rhys Lewis, the promising Welsh sailor is all set to achieve the best as he would represent Great Britain at the Youth Sailing World Championships. Lewis, who is 17 years, has taken part in the British Youth Sailing Team at the weeklong regatta in Corpus Christi this year. The Youth World Championships is where participants often take part to represent their nations at the Olympic Games. Lewis is all geared up to follow the footsteps of some of the biggest sailing performers. Some of the other contestants include Sir Ben Ainslie, who is the most renowned Olympic Sailor, gold medalists of Beijing, Sarah Ayton and Pippa Wilson and Chris Draper and Iain Percy, sailors of the America’s Cup.
Lewis achieved his position in the British Youth Sailing Team post his victory in the Youth National Championships which was held in March. He was accompanied by Drew Wright from Much Wenlock. As Lewis represents Cardiff Bay Yacht Club this time, he said he is excited and looking forward to the Youth Worlds. It is indeed a big event which has been a prime motto of the team to qualify since the beginning of the 420 series. This is important as they are entirely different from the existing ones that the team is already used to. The techniques and setup of the boat has to be altered from time to time so as to get accustomed to the new kit as per Lewis.
